What is Lost CAN Be Found.
While you embrace aging and the positives of different life stages, though still beautiful, it’s difficult to love physiological and aesthetic changes which result in you feeling less vital, and looking like a more tired version of yourself. Fortunately, advances in ‘regenerative medicine’ now enable us to rewind the clock by repairing, restoring and regenerating tissue – and these exciting developments are a natural evolution in aesthetic treatments too.
THE WHY: As we age, our collagen and elastin production slows down, which contributes to visible aging and the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. At around age 35, the effects of aging start to become more pronounced, starting with skin changes. From your mid-30s onward, skin begins to lose it integrity and facial structure changes, including:
- Collagen, fibrin and hyaluronic acid decline
- Subcutaneous fat and deeper fat stores change
- Bone regression
This leads to:
- Loss of support for the overlying skin
- Volumetric changes
- Retreating and pulling muscles
Using the power of cellular intelligence, we can revert the intracellular matrix to a younger state, by triggering the regeneration of the affected tissue and bringing back more sturcuture and youthfulness to the face. In so doing,
- Volume changes can be improved
- Tissue position can be enhanced
- Skin laxity, radiance and quality can be restored
THE WHAT: Regenerative aesthetic treatments harness the body’s natural healing abilities to stimulate soft tissue regeneration. This typically involves stimulating the skin with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), regenerative dermal fillers, or exosomes to generate collagen production. By stimulating the body’s natural repair processes, these treatments can help reduce wrinkles, improve scars, increase skin firmness, and improve texture.
In this article, I will be discussing regenerative dermal fillers.
Dermal fillers are some of the most widely used aesthetic treatments throughout the body. Initially, the primary function of dermal fillers was to restore depleted volume. As biomaterial research hasa advanced, however, a variety of biostimulatory fillers have become staples in aesthetic medicine.
THE HOW (the science): Biostimulatory injectables, as the name suggests, stimulate collagen production. These injectables differ from dermal fillers which address volume loss over time. Biostimulants work by providing re-hydration to the dermal layers of skin, in addition to collagen stimulation.
This slows down the agining process. In some, but not all patients, there is an improvement of skin laxity with clinically visible skin firming and tightening.
Such fillers often contain a carrying vehicle and a biostimulatory material that induces de novo synthesis of major structural components of the extracellular matrix. One such filler, Radiesse (Merz Aesthetics, Raleigh, NC), is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a carboxymethylcellulose gel.
THE RESULTS: In addition to immediate volumization, Radiesse treatment results in increases of collagen, elastin, vasculature, proteoglycans, and fibroblast populations via a cell-biomaterial-mediated interaction. When injected, Radiesse acts as a cell scaffold and clinically manifests as immediate restoration of depleted volume, improvements in skin quality and appearance, and regeneration of the extracellular matrix, which is a structural support network made up of diverse proteins, sugars and other components.
THE WHO and WHERE: At Viva Med Aesthetics & Wellness we are proud to offer Radiesse filler and hyperdilute Radiesse. While most people select Radiesse for use to improve the appearance of the face and facial symmetry, it is also used to restore the backs of hands, knees, elbows, arms, décolleté, as well as to help lift the buttocks! Our Certified Master RN Injectionist, Bambi Parnell, has years of experience with regenerative aesthetic injections. Her expertise will provide you with a natural and refreshed appearance that only an experienced injectionist is able to provide. At Viva Med Aesthetics & Wellness, what is lost can be found!
