Does fear of the unknown keep you from trying out aesthetic treatments?

From Fearful to Fabulous

We’re all aging, but as a mature woman, I am at the stage when it becomes visibly noticeable–your neck doesn’t look the same, the lines in your forehead start to feel permanent, and there are times when who you are and what you see in the mirror don’t always sync. We need to give ourselves permission to know that aging doesn’t have to mean the end of being seen as attractive, and adventurous in spirit. Personally, I’m thrilled that we are in an era where mature women can be seen as vital, and strong.

In today’s world, everyone wants to feel and look their best. If you are also looking to refresh your look, restore your younger skin, or enhance your natural beauty, then trying out Aesthetic Treatments could be your solution. However, getting aesthetic treatments can be a bit nerve-wracking. Fear of the unknown, needle phobia, and previous bad experiences can all contribute to increased anxiety. In this article I’ll be discussing the top 5 most common fears and concerns that come up in my consultations with patients at Viva Med Aesthetics & Wellness.

  • Pain, Discomfort, Side Effects: Even though these procedures are less invasive than surgery, some individuals worry about the pain or discomfort during and after the treatment, and there is a concern about potential side effects, such as bruising, and swelling. Providing the patient with pain management options and giving them a realistic description of how the treatment will be administered will help them manage their fear.  At Viva Med we offer multiple forms of numbing agents to help ease discomfort. As for our Laser Hair Removal system, we offer a painless system that is quick and very effective for all skin types! When it comes to the questions of side effects, I have found that my thorough consultations, which include a detailed discussion and education helps calm their fears with any potential side effects such as bruising or redness.
  • Unnatural Results: A fear that the procedure might result in an unnatural or “frozen” look, particularly with treatments like Botox, where facial expressions may become less expressive. I spend a good amount of time explaining to clients that certain celebrities have a lot of product and/or surgeries to achieve their look. For all those well-known faces who have had obvious work done, there are many people who have had subtle treatments that are not noticeable to the untrained eye. Choosing the professional performing the treatment is critical. They should be licensed, reputable, experienced, and knowledgeable. In an ever-changing world of new advancements, your provider should be trained in the latest techniques. During your consultation, I always answer in detail why I recommend a particular product, procedure, or treatment, and back it up with scientific information, as well as provide treatment options.

  • Cost: Non-surgical treatments can be expensive, and some people fear that the cost may not be justified if they don’t see the results they were hoping for. This again leads us to the initial consultation. At Viva Med, I spend quite a bit of time managing expectations for results, providing customized packages to help with cost, as well as discussing the cost and requirements of maintenance treatments.
  • Misinformation: With the rise of social media and online advice, some individuals may fear being misled or falling prey to unqualified or unlicensed practitioners. I am extremely passionate about this topic! This is why I am continually reading white paper studies, doing my research, continuing my education, as well as providing our staff with continued and ongoing top-notch education in their field.  I want our patients to trust that the information provided to them at Viva Med Aesthetics & Wellness is based on scientific facts and not fed to them by the pharmaceutical companies, skincare companies, product representatives, or social media hype.
  • Stigma or Judgment: Some individuals may worry about how others will perceive them for getting cosmetic procedures, feeling that they will be judged or labeled for their decision. My experience on this is that people are unlikely to notice that you had aesthetic treatments. Most of my clients tell me that following treatments, they will get comments such as ‘you look refreshed’. This is because, once again, a subtle treatment with fillers, and botox will look natural, so people may see a difference, but they are unable to pinpoint what it is.

At Viva Med Aesthetics & Wellness we are raising the bar on beauty and inviting you to step into a new era of Regenerative Anti-Aging, Aesthetics, & Wellness!

Our consultations are complimentary, and I am here to offer you my 30 plus years of experience and education to answer all your questions to take you from Fearful to Fearless and Fabulous!
