Facials

The skin is the largest organ of the human body and will more than likely be the first thing that others notice about us. Our Master Aesthetician will help you choose skin care products and a regimen to enhance your skin’s appearance. Having the right skincare routine and receiving regular facial aesthetic treatments is a combination that will provide the foundation for healthy skin, as well as prevent or reduce early signs of aging.

At Viva Med Aesthetics & Wellness, we customize our aesthetic treatments based on your skin type and desired goals.

The advantages of regular skin aesthetic treatments include:

  • Tightening and toning skin
  • Smoothing skin
  • Soothing scarring
  • Balance texture
  • Minimizes pores
  • Softens wrinkles and fine lines
  • Deep cleansing
  • Anti-Aging
  • Exfoliating
  • Helps to enhance Pre and Post Laser Treatments

The Dynamics of the Skin

Our skin is in a constant renewal state, and we shed our top layer on a daily basis. We shed very slowly, and as dead skin cells get washed or brushed away, we do not normally notice this. The cells are made deep in our skin and migrate to the surface to be shed. This process is quite quick in our youth, at about a four-week period, and extends to six weeks or longer as we get older. As the shedding slows down, so does the production of new cells leading to a build-up of a thicker layer of dead skin cells on the surface. Externally, this can give your skin a dull, dry appearance.

The cells also change as they migrate to the top from being juicy and plump to flatter and dehydrated. They normally carry pigment to the surface with them. Once at the surface they are held by special bonds which ‘glue’ the cells together for a short period before they break away.

What happens during a chemical peel?

During a chemical peel, a specially prepared acid or a combination of acid solution is applied on the surface of your skin. This breaks the bonds or ‘glue’ holding the cells together. Different acids can penetrate to different depths during the treatment.

Interested in a chemical peel but unsure whether it’s safe or effective?

This popular wrinkle reducing treatment is often called the “lunchtime facial” because it’s quick and easy with little to no downtime. But there are some myths floating around about chemical peels, so let’s clear things up by giving you the facts.

Common Myths and Facts About Chemical Peels

Myth 1: Chemical Peels Are Unsafe

Chemical peels have been around for a long time and for good reason.  Peels use a special chemical solution to break down the top layer of dead skin cells. In this way, chemical peels act as an exfoliant, revealing the layers of fresh, rejuvenated skin below.

Myth 2: Skin Will Excessively Peel Post-Treatment

The skin may or may not peel after a chemical peel treatment. In almost all cases, a chemical peel does not produce heavy peeling. In fact, many of the peels available work at the cellular level, so physical side effects are none to minimal.

Myth 3: Chemical Peels Can’t Be Used on Sensitive Skin

Even if you have sensitive skin, acne, rosacea, or eczema, you can still receive a chemical peel. Some peels are even formulated for sensitive skin or for skin that’s prone to rosacea. Some peels help to calm the skin, reducing inflammation. Others can go to work on the root causes of acne: a combination of sebum (oil), dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells that combine to cause a clogged pore.

Myth 4: There’s One Type of Chemical Peel

If you haven’t gotten the picture yet, there are many kinds of chemical peels out there. There are various depths of chemical peels as well.

Myth 5: I’ll Only Need One Peel

While results like brighter, more youthful-looking skin tone are visible after one peel, you may need more treatments for greater results. For example, if you’re looking to work on deeper wrinkles, acne scars, or dark spots, you may need to receive a chemical peel treatment about every six to eight weeks. As an acne treatment, a chemical peel may be needed at different intervals.
